Why "Seven Mansions"?

✦

Every book in this house is a room, and every room leads further in.

“…our soul to be like a castle made of a single diamond or of very clear crystal, in which there are many rooms, just as in Heaven there are many mansions.”
St. Teresa of Ávila, The Interior Castle (trans. E. Allison Peers)
“In my Father's house there are many mansions.”
John 14:2
The Interior Castle

Where the Name Comes From

In 1577, St. Teresa of Ávila, the Carmelite nun the Church would one day name a Doctor of the Church, wrote The Interior Castle to answer a simple question: what happens to a soul on its way to God? Her answer was an image. The soul is a castle of crystal with many rooms, and the King lives in the innermost room, at its very center. The door into the castle is prayer.

Teresa grouped those rooms into seven "mansions," seven stages of the journey inward. Each one asks more of the soul, and each one brings it closer to the King.

  1. I
Self-KnowledgeThe soul steps inside through prayer and begins to see itself honestly, still surrounded by the distractions of the courtyard.
  2. II
PerseveranceThe King's call grows clearer, and the soul learns to keep rising after every fall.
  3. III
The Ordered LifeA faithful, disciplined life, admired by others, and the danger of thinking it has already arrived.
  4. IV
The Prayer of QuietPeace begins to come from God himself, like water rising from a spring rather than drawn by effort.
  5. V
UnionThe silkworm dies in its cocoon, and a butterfly rises.
  6. VI
The Wound of LoveBetrothal to the King, with deep longing and real trials.
  7. VII
Spiritual MarriageThe soul rests at the center of the castle, with the King who has always lived there.

That is the vision behind this house. A good story can be a room in that castle. Thrillers, fantasy and devotional books alike can carry a reader a little further in, toward the One who waits at the center. That is what we mean by Epic Christian Fiction. Timeless Truth.

T.R. Magnus is also retelling Teresa's journey as an epic fantasy. The Seven Mansions series follows Ines Vael through all seven mansions, one book for each.

Our Crest

What the Crest Means

A gold line-art crest featuring a castle on a hill with stars, framed by decorative floral vines and scrollwork, centered on a white background.

Our crest gathers Teresa's vision into a single image, drawn in gold line art.

  • The castleTeresa's interior castle: the soul as a dwelling of crystal, with the King living at its center.
  • The hillThe castle stands on a height, recalling Mount Carmel, the mountain that gave Teresa's Carmelite order its name.
  • The starsStars crown the Carmelite coat of arms. Here they are the light of heaven, guiding the soul inward.
  • The vines and flowersTeresa often compared the soul to a garden the Lord plants and waters. The vines are that garden in bloom.

About Me

I'm Dr. Judah Lamb (M.Div., Ph.D.), and I wasn't destined for the dusty halls of academia. After finishing my doctorate in theology in 2017, I traded intricate footnotes for a storyteller's pen. Like many theologians, I've found that true faith is often best understood through story.

Inspired by C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien and Frank Peretti, I bring years of ministry and theological study to suspense, thrillers and fantasy: stories that are thrilling and thought-provoking, about the battle between good and evil. I also write devotional books, grounded in serious theology but written for every Christian, no theology degree required.

Seven Mansions Media is my house, and I write here under two names: Judah Lamb and T.R. Magnus.
